The client faced increasing costs associated with maintaining their extensive fleet of devices that were installed in transportation vehicles. Out-of-warranty repairs to screens, SSDs, motherboards, etc. proved to be expensive, as these were commonly replaced components that continued to rack up additional costs. When the client initially proposed to purchase spare parts directly and perform repairs in-house, this presented a significant concern regarding “responsibility” with the technology and the inability to ensure proper repair procedures were followed to Getac’s standards.

Balancing cost-saving self-maintenance and repair training for damage mitigation
To save on the cost of out-of-warranty repairs, Getac allowed the client to engage in self-repair processes. To address the issue of responsibility when it comes to self-maintenance, Getac established a mutual arrangement with the client to obtain access to spare parts contingent upon the completion of thorough repair training. This initiative served to harmonize cost-saving measures with equipment integrity, empowering their team members with the necessary competencies for proper installations. This also mitigated potential damages arising from improper repairs, safeguarding the sustained functionality of the equipment.
