An automotive manufacturer needed a faster, more user-friendly automotive diagnostic tablet that could support on-board diagnostics (OBD) for real-time vehicle communication. Engineers and operators frequently use tablets with these integrations on the factory floor to retrieve data directly from the vehicle to check fault codes (DTCs), monitor health, and deploy remote diagnostic solutions.

Outdated devices hinder automotive operations
The client’s legacy solution, a small 8" tablet from 2008, could no longer keep up with the pace and precision required in automotive manufacturing. With a limited screen and sluggish performance, engineers were restricted in their ability to effectively run diagnostics and vehicle programming. More critically, the device lacked native support for an OBD connector and a CANBUS module, which was essential for interfacing with modern vehicle systems.
THE TAILORED SOLUTION
Fully rugged tablet with custom connector and communication module
Getac provided a tailored solution through the rugged tablet fitted with an OBD connector tablet and an integrated CANBUS module. This configuration enabled engineers to interface directly with vehicle systems to retrieve diagnostic data and execute programming protocols. Getac also supplied a customized hard handle that allowed the tablet to be mounted directly onto a vehicle steering wheel, allowing technicians to perform diagnostics hands-free, improving efficiency and reducing fatigue during extended programming sessions. The tablet’s larger display and on-the-go flexibility combined with faster performance and rugged durability made it a seamless fit for factory floor operations.
