As part of a major transportation group, this civil aviation maintenance team manages the digital content and system updates for in-flight entertainment, which consists of large amounts of data. To keep aircraft systems current, during aircraft maintenance, technicians routinely connect laptops to in-flight servers to upload new entertainment. The legacy devices, however, are slow to transmit data and incompatible with new software demands. To replace the existing SATA SSDs (solid-state drives), which were already filled with valuable video content, would also be costly and wasteful for the company. Ultimately, the client needed a rugged laptop with improved network speed that could support faster data transmission while also reusing their current SSDs.

Getac recommended the rugged laptop, upgraded with a high-speed 10GB RJ45 network port and a dedicated SSD slot in the Media Bay. This configuration turned the device into the ideal high-speed data transfer laptop and enabled the team to plug into the aircraft’s server and quickly sync in-flight entertainment, dramatically reducing wait times. Along with this customization, the client was still able to continue using their existing SATA SSDs, optimizing both cost and performance. To top all off, the durable S410 laptop also met aviation-grade reliability requirements for field use.
