KWH Freeze is the largest frozen storage provider in Finland. In such an industry, conditions can be extremely challenging for IT equipment, particularly in the warehouse where a temperature of -23° Celsius is maintained all year round. To operate effectively, the company needs devices that thrive in such a cold environment, and deliver powerful performance that can facilitate the smooth flow of information between its main office, warehouse and customers.

/ Solution / (Summary)

Getac’s B360 fully rugged laptop delivers all the power and rugged reliability that KWH Freeze requires in a compact and lightweight form factor. Market-leading processing power and connectivity offers optimum productivity from anywhere in the warehouse, while MIL-STD-810H, MIL-STD-461G and IP66 certifications mean it can easily withstand the cold temperatures found in the warehouse.

Furthermore, at just 34.9mm thick and 2.32kg, the B360 can be carried and operated for extended periods of time without causing user fatigue.

/ Benefit / (Summary)

The B360 fulfils all the needs of KWH Freeze’s employees, enabling them to move seamlessly between office and warehouse environments and keep goods flowing around the clock. Migrating to the B360 is also helping the company digitally transform its operations, improving business efficiency and ensuring customers receive optimal service at all times.

/ Challenge /

Founded in 1965, KWH Freeze is the largest frozen storage provider in Finland, with almost half of all frozen foodstuffs consumed in the country passing through its warehouses. The company’s customers include wholesale dealers, food industry actors and frozen food distributors, ranging from small businesses with just one pallet to store, up to large organisations with more than 10,000 pallets.

To operate as effectively as possible, KWH Freeze invests heavily in the integration between its own IT systems and those of its customers. Doing so helps optimise the flow of information, making it easier to track goods throughout its warehouses and transport them to customers both quickly and efficiently.

However, the working environment can be very challenging for IT equipment. For example, the temperature inside the frozen storage warehouse is -23° Celsius at all times, which is too cold for most standard consumer devices to operate. It is also extremely large, at around 80000m2, meaning devices must be equipped with multiple connectivity options that enable employees to collect information on inbound and outbound goods from different locations all over the warehouse.

“We knew we needed rugged devices that could withstand the cold environments found in the warehouse, but also offer market-leading computing performance and connectivity,” says Peter Lång, CEO, KWH Freeze. “They also needed to be light enough to carry for extended periods and easy for all our employees to use.”

Following an extensive market review, Peter identified the Getac B360 fully rugged laptop as the ideal device for the company’s needs. The B360 features a 10th Generation Intel® Core™ Processor, making it one of the fastest fully rugged laptops on the market, capable of running large numbers of applications simultaneously without impacting performance. It is also equipped with Bluetooth 5.1 and Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX200, as well as optional 4G LTE and integrated GPS. This means smooth streaming, fewer dropped connections, and lightning-speed mobile connectivity, even in remote warehouse locations.

Furthermore, the B360 is built rugged from the ground up, to thrive in the kinds of conditions found inside KWH Freeze’s warehouses. MIL-STD-810H, MIL-STD-461G and IP66 certifications mean it can withstand temperatures from -29°C to +63°C (-20°F to 145°F) and a 6-foot drop while operating. Despite all this, the B360 is just 34.9mm thick and weighs just 2.32kg, making it the thinnest and lightest fully rugged laptop in its class. As a result, it can be carried and operated for extended periods without causing user fatigue.

The B360 fulfils all the needs of KWH Freeze’s employees, enabling them to move seamlessly between office and warehouse environments and keep goods flowing around the clock. Migrating over to the B360 is also helping KWH Freeze digitally transform its operations at a crucial time in the industry. In addition to its speed, connectivity and rugged reliability, the device’s full-size keyboard and large 13.3” LumiBond® 2.0 display offers maximum usability in all situations, making it easy for staff to quickly input information and immediately share it with customers from anywhere.

“The B360 meets our unique requirements incredibly well. Conditions in the warehouse are way too cold for most consumer-grade devices, plus the need to wear thick protective gloves and coats while in there means devices get dropped and bumped on a regular basis,” says Peter. “Not only can the B360 handle the challenging warehouse environment incredibly well, its compact size and light weight mean staff can carry it with them everywhere, speeding up operations and optimising the service our customers receive.”
