World’s Most Powerful Rugged Notebook Launched In The UK

Getac UK has announced the launch of the world’s most powerful fully rugged convertible notebook, the first to boast the new Intel® Core™ i7 2.0 GHz processor.

The V200 is also the most feature rich of Getac’s product range to date, including a 12.1-inch convertible wide screen display and the exclusive 1200 NITs QuadraClear technology – allowing users to operate the unit in direct sunlight.

Powered by the new Intel Core i7-620LM processor running at 2.0GHz, Max 2.8GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology, the V200 sets a new standard in rugged computing processing speeds according to Peter Molyneux, Business Development Director of Getac in the UK.

“The V200 has unrivalled capacity to handle even the most CPU-intensive software, while still performing in demanding field conditions across a range of applications,” Molyneux says.

“Users will benefit from the powerful processing power, as well as the Intel® vPro™ technology, which offers hardware-assisted security and manageability capabilities.”

The 4MB of Intel L3 Smart Cache is readily available to each of the processor cores, improving efficiency while increasing processor speed. At only 25-watts consumption, the Core i7-620LM helps the unit outperform other rugged convertibles by up to 47 per cent.

In addition, the 12.1 inch display is built using resistive multi-touch technology, meaning users can operate the screen through single and multi-finger movements even while wearing gloves – vital when working in extreme environments.

Field-based operators will also benefit from Getac’s exclusive LifeSupport™ battery swapping system – an option that allows users to swap a used for a charged battery without shutting down the system.

“This function will prove invaluable to users who need to use their notebooks on the go – there’s no need to spend time closing applications or shutting the system down,” Molyneux adds.

The V200 is MIL-STD-810G and IP65 compliant, adding to its rugged design and flawless performance in harsh environments.  Along with its full magnesium alloy casing and fanless operation, the fully rugged unit can also be used in sub-20 degree Celsius environments.

The notebook also includes a shock mounted 320GB hard drive and sealed I/O caps and doors to prevent damage from solid particles and moisture. Users can also configure the V200 with an 80GB solid state drive.

Other features of the all-in-one unit include WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth, 10/100/1000 Giga LAN and a full-size, 88-key keyboard as standard, and GPS and 3G as available options. Triple communication channels (WLAN /WWAN /GPS) passed through I/O connectors also offer vertical dock solutions.

Multiple expansion interfaces including USB, VGA, RS232, eSATA, SD card reader and PCMCIA, extend the rugged notebook’s flexibility and communications capacity.
