Reigning FIA Formula 2 Champion Invicta Racing uses Getac Technology to stay ahead of the field

Invicta Racing is a premier motorsport team competing around the world in the FIA Formula 2 Championship. The UK based team has enjoyed signifcant success since its foundation in 2012 (as Virtuosi Racing), winning multiple championships including both the FIA Formula 2 Teams' and Drivers' Championships in 2024 and 2025.

At such an elite level of racing, the difference between winning and losing can be just fractions of a second, so Invicta’s engineers are constantly looking for new ways to optimise performance. Increasingly, one of the most important ways they do this is through data analytics. 

“Data is becoming more and more critical every year, not just for on-track performance but in a wide range of other operational areas too,” says Alex Thew, Performance Engineer for Invicta Racing. “Our team is quite small, so we need to run as lean as possible and optimising operations through data analytics enables us to do that.”

Speed of data sharing is also extremely important, particularly during race weekends where a condensed schedule sees both practice and qualifying take place on Friday before two races over Saturday and Sunday.

“Every race weekend we set up a network at the track that lets us share racing telemetry data across the whole team in real-time ,” says Alex. “This allows us to make rapid adjustments to the cars before and during sessions, dynamically manage race strategies, and keep our drivers informed at all times.”

However, race weekends create challenging environments for IT equipment, with device knocks, spillages and accidental drops all common occurrences in the pits and at track side. Even a single device failure can have major consequences, so the team need rugged devices that are purpose built to perform reliably and thrive in such conditions.

Prior to 2025, Invicta used semi-rugged devices that were primarily designed for use in schools. While they offered some level of physical protection, the team’s engineers and mechanics found their low specifications frustrating, which soon led to them looking for a better alternative.

After assessing a variety of options, Invicta identifed Getac technology as the ideal replacement and successfully made the switch to Getac rugged laptops and tablets at the start of the championship winning 2025 season. For the 2026 season, the team will be using a combination of Getac’s F110 fully rugged tablets and S410 / S510 rugged laptops.

The F110 delivers power and functionality in a fully rugged tablet form factor, making it well suited to the demands of racing environments. Invicta’s engineers will primarily use the device to capture rapid feedback from their drivers after practice and qualifying sessions, as well as monitoring track position and tyre pressures from the pit wall during races.

The F110’s 11.6-inch display delivers a brilliant 1,200 nits of screen brightness, enabling clear outdoor reading and video playback on even the brightest days. If adverse weather should affect the race venue, its multitouch device input (via touch, glove, or pen) enables easy usage in cold and/or rainy conditions on the pit wall.

Getac’s S410 and S510 laptops are designed to deliver uncompromising computing performance in challenging operating environments, such as those found in the pits at Formula 2 races. Invicta’s mechanics will use the laptops in the team’s garage throughout each race weekend, running custom applications that help information transfer during build, repair, and maintenance of the cars. The Getac laptops will also be used for implementing performance adjustments identified by the team’s engineers.

The devices’ MIL-STD-810H and IP53 certifications make them ideally suited to the fast-paced garage environment, where liquid spillages, strong vibrations and extreme temperatures are commonplace.

Since Getac’s rugged technology was implemented, Invicta hasn’t encountered a single device failure during a race weekend, while the speed and power of Getac’s rugged laptops and tablets is also a significant improvement on its previous devices.

This high level of reliability means the team’s engineers and mechanics can stay fully focussed on racing as they aim to secure both the FIA Formula 2 Teams' and Drivers' Championship titles for an unprecedented third straight season.

For the 2026 season, the team is also exploring how its chief mechanic can take advantage of the F110’s built in scanner to quickly order new parts during race weekends, eliminating the need for an external scanner and further improving overall operational efficiency.

“When speed is everything, device failure can be catastrophic,” concludes Alex. “Getac’s rugged laptops and tablets are purpose built for the kind of high-pressure environments we operate in every race weekend, meaning we can be fully confident in their ability to perform. As a racing team, this is invaluable.”
