Getac Technology Corporation has jumped up the ranking amongst rugged computer manufacturers according to the latest VDC research, which aims to provide strategic global and tactical market information.
The company scored highest in both the Technical Innovation and Services categories and was ranked fifth in overall performance with a rating of 8.1 out of 10, ahead of other rugged brands such as Panasonic, Lenovo and GD-Itronix.
“We are delighted that our policy of providing innovative rugged computing solutions for customers has now received this recognition,” says Peter Molyneux, Vice President Getac UK. “Especially pleasing was our ranking as second amongst the rugged computing manufacturers.”
The analysis, titled 2011 Enterprise Mobility Solutions Market Intelligence Service, examined a number of segments in regional markets around the globe, looking at different vertical sectors, and the different forms of mobile computing on offer. The survey rates brands according to product features; technical innovation; support and service; pricing; reliability; and brand performance.
The VDC report comprises of interviews and web surveys with Presidents, VPs of Marketing, Business Development Managers and Senior Product Managers amongst rugged and commercial-grade mobile computing suppliers, wireless carriers, enterprise mobility distributors and integrators, mobile software vendors and end-users.
The report focused on both Field Service and Field Sales operations and notes a trend towards convertible notebooks and more recently, tablet devices. In Field Sales, the report notes that connectivity is becoming increasingly mission-critical.
“Getac continues to expand its position in the field service segment. The company has one of the broadest rugged mobile product portfolios,” the report says.
VDC is a technology market research and strategy firm, founded in 1971 by graduates of the Harvard Business School and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It has over 30 years of experience in providing market research, strategic analysis and consulting services to technology companies worldwide.
“I am especially delighted to receive recognition for our technical innovation, which also reflects initiatives like our 5-year warranties,” added Molyneux. “We will now be looking at how we can enhance our products and support capabilities even further to ensure we build on this growing position.”
